Coronel Suarez is located in the southwest of Buenos Aires province in the mountain system of Ventania. It is distant 562 kilometers from Federal Capital and 466 kilometers from Mar del Plata. It is a classical locality of Buenos Aires, with wide streets, many of them paved, recognized as a synonym of national pole. The gaucho traditions are expressed in high-quality crafts in silverware in Coronel Suarez.

Coronel Suárez se desarrolló en la región del sudoeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires que tuvo como epicentro el Fortín de Sauce Corto, Comandancia de la Conquista del Desierto.
El partido fue creado en 1882 durante la gobernación de Dardo Rocha. En 1884 un grupo reducido de galeses provenientes del Chubut ocupan ocho leguas que les fueron cedidas para que las trabajen con tareas agrícolas. En 1886, el colonizador Eduardo Casey dispone una considerable extensión a fin de posibilitar la radicación familias de origen alemán, procedentes de Rusia habían llegado un año antes al puerto de Buenos Aires.
La producción agrícola y ganadera del distrito permitió que Coronel Suárez fuera declarada ciudad en 1934.
La creación, en 1882, de la Comisión Municipal, presidida por Juan Argüelles, dio principio al gobierno local, el cual permaneció en manos conservadoras hasta, prácticamente, los años 40´. Hubo, sin embargo, interinatos y gobiernos provisionales que respondieron a una tendencia más socialista.
